Stockton University partnered with American Athletic Track and Turf to undertake a comprehensive renovation of its athletic track and natural sod field. This project focused on enhancing the performance, safety, and aesthetics of the university’s sports facilities. By installing the cutting-edge Beynon BSS-1000 13mm track system and completely renovating the natural sod field, we aimed to provide Stockton University’s athletes with a state-of-the-art environment that supports both training and competitive excellence.

The Challenge

The existing track at Stockton University was outdated and showing signs of significant wear, which compromised both its performance and safety. The natural sod field also suffered from poor drainage, uneven surfaces, and inadequate irrigation, limiting its usability throughout the year. These issues not only affected athletic performance but also reduced the facility’s ability to host high-level competitions and events.

Our Plan

To address these challenges, American Athletic Track and Turf developed a strategic renovation plan that focused on both the track and the natural sod field. The track renovation involved the installation of the Beynon BSS-1000 13mm system with DSS 1000 custom colors, designed to enhance durability, traction, and aesthetic appeal. For the natural sod field, we planned a full-depth excavation to remove the existing surface, followed by the importation of custom-blended topsoil to promote healthy turf growth. It’s essential that we also include a new, advanced irrigation system to ensure optimal water distribution and install premium Bermuda turf sod to create a lush, resilient playing surface.

Our Work

The execution of the project showcased our commitment to precision and quality. For the track, we installed the Beynon BSS-1000 13mm system, a multilayer, full-depth polyurethane surface designed for elite performance. This system included a 3mm adhesion layer of polyurethane and SBR for superior bonding, a 6.5mm force reduction layer to minimize impact on athletes’ joints, and a .4mm wear layer composed of polyurethane and virgin EPDM for exceptional durability and traction. The custom DSS 1000 colors were selected to reflect Stockton University’s branding and enhance the visual appeal of the facility.

Simultaneously, we undertook a complete renovation of the natural sod field, beginning with full-depth excavation to ensure proper grading and drainage. We imported custom-blended topsoil, specifically formulated to support robust turf growth, and installed a state-of-the-art irrigation system to maintain optimal moisture levels. The project was completed with the installation of high-quality Bermuda turf sod, providing a resilient, aesthetically pleasing surface that can withstand heavy athletic use.
